To prevent children from getting myopia from an early age,
it is important to avoid activities that strain the eyes too much,
and to select a pair of suitable eyewear.

If your children are first-time spectacle wearers, visit an optometrist to receive their prescription before buying their eyewear.

It is important to check not only their eyesight but also the overall eye condition.

Along with the prescription, visit one of our stores and speak with our staff.
Our staff will do their best to help select the most suitable pair of frames for your children!

First off, select frames that match your child’s head width for a better fit.
Then, speak with our staff regarding the different frame functions,
and try on as many pairs as you and child desire!

Slight adjustments can be made to suit each and every child – especially for the fit of the temple ends at the ears and nose pads.
Aftercare services also include straightening, exchanging of lenses, and cleaning.

Children who do not currently require spectacles may develop myopia as they age.
It is advised to visit the optometrist at least once every half a year for regular eye checks.

Q. Why do children get myopia?

Most myopia is caused by the eyes growing excessively in the anterior-posterior direction in young children.
This usually starts from when the child is 10-11, and stops at 24-25 years of age.

Q. Why does myopia worsen?

The reason for myopia worsening is not clearly known.
One possible reason is viewing from near distances over periods of time, which strains the eyes and leads to worse myopia in children.

For this reason, parents should limit the time children can spend looking at electronic devices, and encourage them to rest their eyes frequently.

Q. What kind of food or supplement should my child take to prevent myopia from worsening?

There is no food or supplement scientifically proven to help prevent myopia in children.

This goes the same for vision recovery training exercise and acupuncture point massages.

Q. How do I prevent my child from getting myopia in general?

To slow down myopia in children, it is important to not stress out the eyes during day-to-day activities.

Q. Is smartphone bad for the eyes?

It is not known if smartphone usage is bad for the eyes, but long hours of staring at smartphones closely may stress the eyes, and in turn lead to myopia, or in worse cases, esotropia.

Being engrossed in smartphone usage for long hours can also cause study concentration to fall and lack of sleep issues.

Q. At what degree will my child be required to wear spectacles?

It depends on where your child is seated in the classroom and your child’s age, but for children aged 9 and above, you should start thinking of buying spectacles for them when their naked-eye vision hits 0.5, and 0.2 to 0.3 is the degree level that requires spectacles.

If they keep going without spectacles, it might hinder their studies. Wearing and removing spectacles repeatedly does not cause myopia to worsen.

Q. Will myopia worsen if my child wears spectacles above their own eye degree? Is it better to get a pair with weaker degree?

The degree of a pair of spectacles have no correlation with myopia worsening.
It is recommended to pick a pair that gives good far-distance eyesight. While it is true that your children might feel more comfortable wearing spectacles with weaker degrees, you should always bring them to optometrists to get their eyes checked and get spectacles with the right degree for them.

Q. Spectacles vs contact lenses, which is better for myopia?

Both spectacles and contact lenses do not cause myopia to worsen or prevent myopia in any way.
For contact lenses, it must always be kept sanitary, so it is recommended for children of older ages to start using them.

Q. What should I take note of during my first spectacle purchase?

For children who are not used to wearing spectacles, they might put it into their backpack without the case or put it into their pocket and sit on it by accident. Therefore, pick out a pair of frames that does not go out of shape easily.

It is important to put the spectacles back into its box once it is taken off to prevent dust on the lenses and to keep the frame intact. Learn more about how to take care of your spectacles from our stores.
